Obituary for April 16, 2012

Edna McQuisten

Edna Mae McQuisten, 90, a former Baker City resident, died April 3, 2012, at McMinnville.

Her graveside service was Wednesday at Haines. There was a reception afterward at the Eagles Lodge, 2935 H St.

She was born on June 10, 1921, at Dallas, Ore. She married John Hoffman and they had five children. They divorced and she married Ben McQuisten in 1969 and got five stepchildren.

They lived at Baker City for a while, but she wanted to move back to Haines because she missed the trains. She liked the sounds of trains, plus she liked to hear them go down the tracks.

She loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing. She didn’t care what the weather was like as long as she could get her fishing line in the water. She enjoyed helping children learn how to fish.

She enjoyed animals of any kind, those on the ground or those flying through the air. If she happened to find a hurt animal she would figure out a way to get it home to help it mend — sometimes letting it go, sometimes not.

“In a way we were kind of lucky when we were kids for we thought we lived at the zoo with all the critters around,” her children said.

“She will be missed by all who knew and loved her, but she is in a better place now,” they said.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, two husbands and an infant son.

Survivors include five children, Charles Hoffman and his wife, Barbara, of Pendleton, Linda Taylor and her husband, Larry, of Yamhill, Frances Harkness of Baker City, William John Hoffman of Pilot Rock and Sharon Chase of Baker City; her brother, Richard Nale of Corvallis; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
