Obituary for April 2, 2012

Lois Eardley

Lola Blanche Hiatt Eardley, 97, a former longtime Baker City resident, died March 1, 2012, at Bountiful, Utah.

Her funeral was March 6 at Bountiful, Utah, with interment at Lakeview Cemetery there.

Lola was born on Sept. 25, 1914, at Hermiston to Charles and Lizzie Hiatt. She was the seventh of nine children.

Lola lived most or her life at Baker City, moving to Bountiful, Utah, in 1980 after retiring from the Forest Service.

She married David W. Eardley in September 1939. They were later divorced. She was devoted to, and found great joy in her family of three children, seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Lola was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings and touching the lives of many through her love and example, family members said. She enjoyed working in the Relief Society, directing music and choirs and several years of teaching early morning seminary to high school students.

She also taught swimming lessons at Radium Hot Springs for many years. Lola was a wonderful friend to those she worked and lived around her. She enjoyed cooking and homemaking and was generous with her service to others.

Some of her favorite activities, which friends would remember, were going huckleberrying and picnicking.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda (John) Chatelain of Salt Lake City; and sons Don (Connie) of Farr West, Utah, and Kim (Valerie) of Baker City; 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Myrna; and a great-granddaughter, Jolie.
