Ladd Steele
Ladd Steele, 89, a longtime Halfway resident, died Jan. 17, 2011, at his home with his wife by his side.
Family inurnment will be later in the spring.

Ladd Orlynn Steele was born on Sept. 17, 1921, at Halfway (Boulder Flat) to Ben R. and May E. Hulse Steele. He was their only child.

He attended grade school at Clear Creek and graduated from high school at Halfway.

Ladd joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and spent 3ﬁ years in the Pacific during World War II. When he returned, he worked in the sawmills. He married his childhood friend, Juanita Goodwin.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita; two nephews, Terry Smith and Larry Smith and his wife, Gail, of Prineville; two nieces, Kyra Smith of Portland and Michelle Smith of Bend; and many cousins.
