There's been some on the Cycle Oregon forum page regarding the route's descent from Anthony Lakes to North Powder.

The 2,000-cyclist ride leaves Sumpter the morning of Sept. 13 and travels to Granite and the North Fork of the John Day before heading east to Anthony Lakes. From there, the route continues on to Union, where the cyclists have a rest day (or an optional ride to ).

Cycle Oregon has descended from Anthony Lakes , en route to Haines in 1999.

The route prompted the Baker City Herald editorial board to suggest an route from Sumpter to Union through Baker City and Haines and to invite Cycle Oregon to return for a weekend ride from Haines up to Anthony Lakes.
