BHS scores 35 runs in Mac-High doubleheader

Baker pummeled Mac-Hi pitching for 35 runs and 28 hits Friday while
sweeping a Greater Oregon League baseball doubleheader 24-4 and 11-1 at
Milton-Freewater.
“The kids hit the ball well,” said Baker coach Dan Blankenship. “Our pitchers threw well; threw a lot of strikes, and we played solid defense. Give the kids credit, we went on the road and picked up a couple of good wins.” Ty Everson, Stephen Talbot and Derek Blankenship led Baker’s offense. Everson finished the day with seven hits and four RBIs, Talbot five hits and three RBIs, and Blankenship six hits and eight RBIs.In Game 1, Baker got started with a 5-run first inning only to have Mac-Hi bounce back with three runs off Everson in the bottom of the inning. Baker led 7-4 after two innings then erupted for 12 runs in the third inning. Everson, Blankenship and Trace Richardson each had two-run hits in the inning. The Bulldogs added five more runs in the fifth inning. Everson finished with four hits, including a double and home run, and four RBIs. Talbot had three hits, including a triple. Blankenship had three hits and three RBIs. Richardson and Matt Gorrell each drove in two runs, and Coleman Lay added two hits. Everson threw a six-hitter, striking out four for the win. Baker led just 2-1 threw four innings of the second game behind starter Will Barr. Blankenship’s RBI single, and Talbot’s RBI double accounted for Baker’s runs. Baker then scored nine runs in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth. Barr and Justin Durflinger reached base on Mac-Hi errors. Everson walked to load the bases. Blankenship then singled to drive in two runs. Dekker Smith singled for another RBI, and Richardson added a sacrifice fly. Gorrell drove home the fifth run with another single. In the sixth, Durflinger reached on an error, and Everson singled. Talbot then doubled Durflinger home. Blankenship followed with a two-run double, and Smith an RBI single. Barr got the win, throwing the first four innings. Blankenship threw a scoreless fifth and sixth. “We ended the game on a pitcher’s best friend, the 6-4-3 double play,” Coach Blankenship said. “And Trace had two tremendous defensive plays in center field; a couple of great catches.” Everson and Blankenship finished with three hits each. Blankenship added five RBIs. Talbot had a pair of doubles and two RBIs, and Smith two hits and two RBIs.
