BHS tennis teams succeed at TVCC tourney

Baker tennis players had a successful weekend at the Treasure Valley Community College tournament in Ontario.

The Baker girls placed in every event, and the boys in three events.

“The boys did pretty well against some good competition,” said Baker coach George Keister.

“It was a long weekend, but the girls played pretty well,” added assistant coach Jody Averett.

Tournament divisions were divided into No. 1 players, No. 2 players, and No. 3 players both in singles and doubles.

Boys

Jordan Curtis, Baker’s No. 2 singles player, did the best in the boys competition.

Curtis won his first two matches before losing 6-2, 6-1 to a Homedale player in the championship match.

“Jordan played a good match,” Keister said.

Ivan Hansen, Baker’s No. 3 singles player, split his first two matches to drop into consolation play.

There, Hansen won two matches to advance to the consolation final where he lost 8-4 to a Parma opponent.

Baker’s No. 1 singles, Dan Sizer, had his hands full against left-handed German exchange players from Payette in his first two matches.

Sizer lost the first match match to drop into consolation play. He won his next match before losing to a Vale player in the second round of consolation.

Jace Rowland, Baker’s second No. 3 singles player, dropped his first two matches.

Baker’s No. 3 doubles team of Jake Payton and Jake Baxter won the consolation championship, defeating a Parma duo 8-4.

Baker’s other two doubles teams, No. 1 Nathan Eiselein and Trenton Howard, and No. 2 Chance Parry and Cameron McAlister each lost their first two matches.

Girls

Baker girls earned four second-place finishes, a third and two consolation titles.

No. 2 singles Helen Galiszewski, No. 3 singles Kate Sizer, No. 2 doubles Miranda McBroom and Makayla Williams, and No. 3 doubles Emily Miller and Jessica McKim all placed second.

No. 1 doubles Ellen Jampolsky and Lilly Bass placed third.

No. 1 singles Courtney Petry and No. 3 doubles Devon Galiszewski and Tabitha Clausen earned consolation honors..

Baker returns to the courts Tuesday when the Bulldogs host Vale at 3:30 p.m. at the Ash Grove Complex.

Boys No. 1 singles — Sizer lost 6-4, 6-4; won 8-4; lost 8-5.

Boys No. 2 singles — Curtis won 6-0, 6-1; won 6-4, 6-3; lost 6-1, 6-2

Boys No. 3 singles — Hansen won 6-4, 6-7, 6-3; lost 3-6, 6-2, 7-5; won 8-1; won 8-1; lost 8-4; Rowland lost 6-4, 6-2; lost 8-1.

Boys No. 1 doubles _ Eiselein-Howard lost 6-4, 6-0; lost 8-3

Boys No. 2 doubles — Parry-McAlister lost 7-5, 6-7, 6-4; lost 8-3

Boys No. 3 doubles — Payton-Baxter lost 6-0, 6-1; won 8-2; won 8-7; won 8-4


Girls events

Girls No. 1 singles — Petry won consolation title 8-1

Girls No. 2 singles — H. Galiszewski lost title match 8-5

Girls No. 3 singles — Sizer lost title match 8-6

Girls No. 1 doubles — Jampolsky-Bass lost in semis 6-2, 6-0

Girls No. 2 doubles — McBroom-Williams lost title match 6-3, 6-0

Girls No. 3 doubles — Miller-McKim lost title match 6-4, 6-1; D. Galiszewski-Clausen won consolation title 8-2
