Baker Junior Legion team makes short work of LG

Team Rudi defeats La Grande by 10-run rule twice

Five Team Rudi pitchers allowed La Grande just three singles Tuesday in sweeping the visitors 15-2 and 12-0 in a Junior Legion baseball doubleheader at the Baker Sports Complex.

Kody Younger and Dustin Hull combined on a 1-hitter in the first game. Tyler Talbot, Dillon Blankenship and Anthony Shankle combined on a two-hitter in the second game.

“Our pitchers pitched well,” said Baker coach Dave Richards.

“Tyler and Kody came in and threw really well. I think it was the first time either of those guys has pitched at this level.”

La Grande’s lone hit in the opener helped produce a 2-0 Baker deficit in the first inning.

Team Rudi answered in the bottom of the inning when Shankle slapped a two-run double to left and Alex Turner added a sacrifice fly for a 3-2 Baker lead.

Team Rudi added four runs in the second, three coming on a home run to left by Colten Richards. Shankle added an RBI single.

Sam Averett’s RBI single increased Team Rudi’s lead to 8-2 in the third.

The Diamondbacks then added seven runs in the fourth. Richards had a two-run double in the inning. Blankenship and Darren Dolby each added two-run singles. Younger drove in the other run when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Richards finished with five RBIs. Shankle was 3-for-3 and Hull 2-for-2.

Team Rudi scored in every inning of Game 2.

Shankle’s two-run double, and  a Hull sacrifice fly helped the Diamondbacks take a 4-0 first-inning lead.

Another two-run double by Richards sparked another 4-run spurt in the second inning.

Blankenship added a run-scoring double, and Dolby an RBI single.
