Baker Relays offer different twist

Baker High School track and field fans got to see a different kind of meet Friday at the Baker Relays.

Most of the field events were run as usual, but the running events were all relays. And, not your normal relays.

Some of the running events were the distance medley where relay runners ran a 1,200, a 400, an 800 and a 1,600 leg. Then there was the sprint medley where runners ran 100, 100, 200 and 400 legs.

Several of the events were co-ed. Including the shuttle hurdles. In that event the relay teams were suppose to represent an individual school. But in may cases that wasn’t true. For example, the Baker girls team included a runner from La Grande. And, Powder Valley’s lone representative at the meet, Kate Jones, filled in on another team.

No official team scores were kept.

Baker earned two first place awards.

Walker Kaseberg win the boys high jump with a final leap of 6 feet, 5 inches.

The girls distance medley relay team of Melissa Clarke, Whitney Phillips, Kelsie Cole and Felicia Schneider also won.

Baker competes in the La Grande Invitational Friday.
