JOHN DAY — Baker brought out the big bats Thursday in a 15-2 drubbing of Grant Union in a non-league baseball game at John Day.

The Bulldogs hammered 17 hits, including three home runs, in the game that was originally scheduled Tuesday but was postponed due to wet weather.

“The kids swung the bats well,” said Baker coach Dan Blankenship.

Ty Everson led the way, going 3-for-4 with a double, two home runs and five RBIs.

Colten Richards finished 2-for-3 with a grand slam homer and four RBIs.

Trevor Freese, Coleman Lay, Justin Durflinger and Jesse Brown each added two hits.

Will Barr picked up the win on the mound, throwing the first three innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Durflinger pitched the final two innings, striking out two and walking one.

Baker erupted for five runs in the top of the first inning. Freese opened the inning with a single and Dillon Blankenship walked. Everson then doubled Freese home. Barr then walked before Richards unloaded his grand slam.

The Bulldogs added four runs in the second inning. Brown doubled and came home on a Freese double. Blankenship singled, and Barr singled Freese home. Lay and Sam Averett then added run-scoring singles.

Everson’s solo homer accounted for another Baker run in the  third.

Baker then finished the game with five more runs in the fourth. Richards walked and went to third on a Durflinger double. Both runners scored on a Brown double. Blankenship walked and Everson then laced a three-run homer.
