Baker baseball shuts out Weiser

 Baker used one big inning to send Weiser packing 11-0 in five innings Tuesday in a nonleague baseball game at the Baker Sports Complex.

The Bulldogs scored eight runs in the second inning to break the game open.

Baker took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Sam Averett drew a one-out walk and went to second on a single by Colten Richards. Averett advanced to third on a passed ball. Then, when BradenPhillips struck out the Weiser catcher dropped the ball and had to throw Phillips out at first. On the play Averett raced home with the game’s first run.

Baker scored all eight of its second-inning run after two outs.

Caleb Custer was hit by a pitch and Darren Dolby followed with a bunt single. Both runners scored on a double by Mason Cline.

Cline then stole third and came home on an Averett single. Averett then stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Richards drove him home with another single.

Richards scored on a double by Phillips. Kody Younger then doubled Phillips home. Younger advanced to third on a single by Nate Baeth. Then, when Baeth got into a rundown between first and second, Younger stole home.

Baker added two more runs in the third inning. Dolby drew a one-out walk and Cline singled. Averett was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. The two runs scored on a single by Richards.

Baeth and Custer combined on a two-hitter with Baeth earning the win.

Baker returns to Greater Oregon League action Friday at La Grande.
