Baker baseball tops Wolverines

WEISER — Baker recent hot bats continued to smoke Saturday in a 16-3 thrashing of Weiser in a non-league baseball game at Weiser.

Baker (4-2 overall) banged out a dozen hits, including six for extra bases.

“The boys are playing better,” said Baker coach Dan Blankenship. “They’re coming along; getting better every game.”

Against the Wolverines, Baker scored three times in the top of the first inning.

Trevor Freese led off with a double and Dillon Blankenship followed with a single. Both runners scored on another double by Ty Everson. Winning pitcher Coleman Lay then drove Everson home with a single.

Baker increased its lead to 4-2 in the second inning when Sam Averett walked and eventually scored on a passed ball.

The Bulldogs added four runs in the fourth inning. Jesse Brown walked and rode home on Freese’s two-run home run. Blankenship walked and advanced on a single by Everson. Blankenship later scored on a single by Justin Durflinger. Everson scored the fourth run on a passed ball.

The Bulldogs then put the game away with eight runs in the fifth.

Blankenship walked and score on a triple by Everson. Will Barr singled, and Lay added an RBI single. Barr and Lay scored on a double by Averett. Brown later added another two-run double.

Everson finished with three hits and three RBIs. Lay and Freese each added two hits and two RBIs.

Lay threw the first four innings allowing two runs. Everson pitched the fifth, allowing one run.

Baker hosts Burns in a single non-league game Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Baker Sports Complex.
