EUGENE — Baker’s stay at the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A state tennis tournament got off to a rocky start Thursday. Both Robert Schmeits and the doubles team of Dan Sizer and Gus Hansen lost their opening-round matches. Schmeits dropped his match 6-2, 6-2 to Kellen Desmarteau of Central. Sizer and Hansen fell 7-5, 6-3 to Jeffrey Morse and Taylor Pena of Cascade Christian. Baker’s other state qualifier, Courtney Petry, opens her tournament play today against No. 2 seed Raji Nagalla of Oregon Episcopal. The tournament, at the Eugene Swim and Tennis Club, runs through Saturday. |
