Balanced scoring and tight defense lifted Baker to a 76-46 Greater Oregon League boys basketball win over Mac-Hi Friday at BHS.

Four Bulldogs scored in double figures — Derek Blankenship with 21, Dekker Smith 17, Jesse Brown 15 and B.J. Quintana 12 — to help Baker improve to 4-2 in the GOL race.

“We had good balanced scoring; a good overall effort,” said Baker coach Craig Woods.

“I thought the kids played hard. They did some good things. Even some of the shots Mac-Hi made were tough shots with our hand in their face.”

Woods said Smith had “a great game,” Trace Richardson “his best game on the boards all season,” and Quintana “a very consistent game.”

Baker ran four set plays to start the game and all of the starters except Blankenship, who scored 45 points in his last outing, scored.

Richardson led the way with a three-point basket. Smith, Brown, and Quintana each added baskets as the Bulldogs built a quick 9-2 advantage.

Baker led 15-9 at the break.

Blankenship then scored 10 points in the second period, and Brown and Quintana four each, as Baker forged a 33-21 halftime lead.

Smith then added 10 points in the third period as the Bulldogs increased their lead to 58-40.

Baker then opened the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run that salted the game away.
