MILTON-FREEWATER — Baker finished fifth in the boys half of the Mac-Hi Gutbuster cross country meet Friday at Mac-Hi.

The Bulldogs finished with 103 points. Pendleton won the meet with 61 points.

Baker didn’t have enough girls to compete in the team standings.

Ian Krohn placed second individually with a time of 17:11.25.

“Ian Krohn had a great race,” said Baker coach Mike Knutson.

“He has shared the spotlight with his brother Evan all season, but we rested Evan due to illness and Ian made the most of it.”

Other Baker boys finishers were Taylor Hawes (18:30.34) 18th, Nate Baeth (19:11.04) 24th, Cody Gyllenberg (19:46.14) 31st, Franklin Bowers (19:48) 32nd, and Ben Spaugh (20:17.50) 36th.

:Our girls were a little flat and didn’t race as aggressively as we’d like to see in the early part of the race but I’m confident they’ll improve on that when we race again at the same course for districts,” Knutson said.

Sarah Spaugh led Baker with a time of 23:39.81 for 20th place.

Other Baker girls were Anna Payton (24:20.98) 23rd, and Katie Sandefur (26:25) 31st.

Baker hosts the Baker Invitational Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Quail Ridge Golf Course.

The Bulldogs then return to Mac-Hi Oct. 26 for the district competition.
