Baker boys qualify for state golf

Baker’s Emily Smith finishes fourth and advances to state tourney as individual

MISSION — Baker’s boys golf team earned a berth in the state tournament by finishing second to La Grande in the district tourney, which ended Tuesday at Wildhorse Resort.

The Baker girls placed fourth as a team and missed out on a state berth, but Emily Smith qualified for state by finishing fourth in the individual standings at district.

Dru Simonski-Davis led the Bulldog boys with a two-day total of 176, which put him a tie for third with La Grande’s Nathan Ladendorff.

Simonski-Davis followed his opening-round 82 with a 94 on Tuesday.

Baker’s Luke Buehler placed fifth with a 196. Pat Vaughan carded a 202, Zach Thatcher 203, and Jayden Uttenreuther 212.

La Grande’s Taylor Mutch was medalist with a 160.

In girls play, Smith shot a 97 on Monday and a 103 on Tuesday, good for a fourth-place tie with Heppner’s Lindsay Cutsforth.

Baker’s Kelsie Geddes and Aly Ogan each had a two-day total of 248, and Megan Fitzpatrick shot 253.

The boys Class 4A state tourney will be May 17-18 at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell.

The girls tournament is set for May 17-18 at the Eagle Crest Resort Course near Redmond.
