NYSSA — Baker runners continued to show improvement Thursday at the Nyssa Invitational cross country meet.

“Everyone ran season-best times for the second week in a row which is a tribute to the hard work the boys and girls have been putting in every day,” said Baker coach Mike Knutson.

“Anna Payton ran a huge PR for the girls despite missing some training lately due to illnes. Nate Baeth and Cody Gylenberg had fantastic races; they’ve been in a bit of a funk at our early races this season but finally had the kind of race we knew they were capable.

“Our success as a team relies heavily on their continued improvement,” Knutson said.

Baker placed third in the boys varsity race with 123 points. Middleton won the team title with 31 points. Nampa was second with 64.

Evan Krohn was third individually with a time of 17:15.97.

The other Baker boys finishers were Ian Krohn (17:38.42) 12th, Taylor Hawes (18:26.01) 27th, Baeth (18:55.92) 32nd, Gyllenberg (20:00.60) 62nd, Ben Spaugh (20:28.09) 80th, and Franklin Bowers (20:38.97) 90th.

Baker didn’t have enough girls to place in the team standings.

Individually, Sarah Spaugh led the Bulldogs, placing 22nd in a time of 23:01.54.

The rest of the Baker girls were Payton (24:55.67) 63rd, Josie Stearns (25:59.67) 82nd, and Katie Sandefur (26:00.12) 83rd.

Baker had four runners place at the middle school race.

Ashlie Chastain (18:18.28)was 88th in the girls race.

Jared McCoon (14:16.71) was 42nd in the boys race. Joseph Daugherty (15:32.85) was 56th, and Chris Bairreuther (16:49.08) was 68th.

Baker runs at La Grande Friday.
