Four Baker players advanced to the Class 4A state boys tennis tournament Thursday after reaching the semifinals at the Greater Oregon League tournament at Vale.

Singles players Lukas Huggins and Jesse Burk join the doubles team of Isaac Mansuetti and Mathew Barnes in advancing to state.

Huggins, the No. 1 seed at district, lost just one game in reaching the semifinals.

Burk, the No. 5 seed, needed three sets to win his quarterfinal match.

“It was a hot, humid ordeal,” said Baker coach George Keister.

Mansuetti and Barnes needed to win a 14-12 tie-breaker in their first set of the day.

“They started slow, but finished off good,” Keister said.

Baker had hoped to get No. 3-seeded singles player Ivan Hansen to state as well. But, after winning his opening match in straight sets, Hansen lost in three sets in the quarterfinals.

“Ivan was having some trouble with his serves,” Keister said. “And, I think the hot, humid temperatures were also a factor.”

Huggins and Burk play each other in today’s semifinal round.
