Baker closed out its tennis regular season Saturday against Crook County and La Grande.

The Baker boys swept their opponents, stopping La Grande 3-1 and the Cowboys 4-0.

The Baker girls split, defeating La Grande 4-1 before falling to Crook County 5-0.

Against La Grande, the boys played just four singles matches because the Tigers have just four players.

JJ Vela, Jesse Burk and Cooper Brooks all won for Baker.

On the girls side, Kate Sizer, Emily Miller and Makayla Williams swept the singles for the Bulldogs.

Devon Galiszewski and Jessica McKim then won the No. 1 doubles in three sets.

Ivan Hansen and Vela won their singles matches against Crook County.

Jordan Curtis and Lukas Huggins swept the No. 1 doubles. Brandon Zunino and Nathan Eiselein did likewise in the No. 2 doubles.

“Jordan and Lukas had a good wakeup call against Parma Friday,” said Baker boys coach George Keister.

“They came out and played a much better match today.

“I’m really happy we were able to have these three tough matches (Parma, La Grande and Crook County) right at the end of the regular season just before district,” Keister said.

Even though the Baker girls were swept by Crook County, Coach Jodie Averett was happy with the way the Bulldogs played.

“They played Crook County after playing a full match against La Grande,” Averett said.

“A lot of the scores don’t reflect how well the girls played. I thought they played really well,” she said.

Baker’s next action comes Thursday and Friday at the Ash Grove Complex when the Bulldogs host the district playoffs.

Action begins Thursday at 9 a.m. and Friday at 10 a.m.
