Baker boys third at Catherine Creek

Baker tied Greenleaf Academy for third place in the boys standings at the annual Catherine Creek Scamper cross country race Friday near Union.

The Bulldogs and Greenleaf each finished with 82 points. Union won the boys race with 59 points.

Union also won the girls race with 28 points. Baker was seventh with 182.

“Our kids ran well despite a hard week of training leading up to the race,” said Baker coach Mike Knutson.

“We’re willing to sacrifice success in September in order to be in peak condition in late October. I’m really excited in the direction our team is headed.”

Nic Maszk was the top boys finisher, taking fourth in  a time of 18:50.

Evan Krohn was 11th (19:37), Connor Yates 20th (20:27), Ian Krohn 26th (20:53), Nate Baeth 30th (21:05), Tyler Gassin 41st (21:44), and Collin Hessel 43rd (21:45).

Cody Gyllenberg led the Baker JV boys with a fourth-place finish (22:55).

Franklin Bowers was sixth (23:24), Jacob Baxter eighth (23:32), Micah Grammon 10th (23:40), Charlie Clarke 16th (25:20), Levu Farber 22nd (25:44), Ben Spaugh 27th (26:08) and Nick Anderson 29th (27:07).

The top Baker girls finisher was Sarah Spaugh, 27th in a time of 25:42.

Kim Pettit was 45th (27:34), Charlie Carpenter 57th (30:59), Madeline Owen 58th (31:03) and Katie Sandefur 59th (31:17).

The Bulldogs run at the Bob Firman Invitational Saturday near Boise.
