Baker girls 1-2 during break

The Baker girls basketball team won one of three nonleague games during the holiday break.

The Bulldogs lost 43-14 at Weiser Thursday. Baker topped Fruitland 39-37 Tuesday and lost 38-31 to Burns Dec. 21.

Weiser 43, Baker 14

Baker’s offense was virtually non-existent against the Wolverines.

The Bulldogs made just four field goals in the game, and were 2-for-25 from two-point range.

“We weren’t taking good shots,” said Baker coach Tim Smith.

“We had a phenomenal first quarter, then couldn’t get anything going offensively after that.”

Ashley Trees led Baker with five points.

Marley Robb’s three-point basket with seven seconds left was the winning margin.

“We called a timeout with 15 seconds left and set up a play for Robb to hit a three,” said Smith.

“Then our defense was just great, forcing a turnover and not allowing Fruitland to get off another shot.”

Smith said the Bulldogs played well from start to finish.

“We played a solid game,” he said. “We rebounded well and handled their pressure.”

Robb and Emily Smith led Baker with eight points each.
