Baker girls gain experience in non-league loss

Baker’s girls basketall team continued its learning experience against Pendleton Tuesday in the Baker gym.

Pendleton handed the Bulldogs a 67-40 loss to drop Baker’s preseason record to 0-2.

“I thought the girls came out and played a better game than we played against Burns last week,” Coach Tim Smith said. “We’re taking some steps toward becoming a better team and that’s our goal in this preseason.

“In our eyes ... it was a successful game even though we didn’t come out on top,” he said.

Baker fell behind 21-4 after one period, then pulled within 30-16 at halftime. Pendleton then outscored the Bulldogs 24-8 in the third period.

Mackenzie Warner led Baker with 13 points. Aly Ogan added nine.

Baker’s games with Weiser and Burns scheduled for Friday and Saturday will be rescheduled due to conflicts with Baker’s state championship football game Saturday at Corvallis.

The girls’ next game is Tuesday at Fruitland.
