Baker girls lose at La Grande

Baker scored as many points in the first quarter as it did in the second half Friday on the way to falling 52-40 in a Greater Oregon League girls basketball game at La Grande.

The Bulldogs led 14-9 after one period and 26-21 at halftime. But, Baker managed just 14 points in the second half allowing La Grande to catch and pass the Bulldogs (1-4 in the GOL).

Brie Sand scored six of her 14 points in the first quarter for the Bulldogs. Michelle Freese added four of her 10 as Baker built a 14-9 lead.

Sand and Allie Brown each tallied four points in the second period as Baker maintained a 26-21 edge at halftime,.

La Grande then used six points from Auslin McDaniel-Perrin to take a 35-34 advantage entering the fourth quarter.

Baker then regained its final lead on a basket from Freese with 7:06 left in the game.

La Grande then outscored the Bulldogs 17-4 the rest of the game.

Baker is currently in third place in the GOL. The Bulldogs must defeat Mac-Hi Friday at Milton-Freewater to clinch third place and host the Pioneers Feb. 18 in the first round of the GOL district playoffs.
