Baker girls soccer falls to Mac-Hi

Mac-Hi made Special District 7 girls soccer history Saturday when the Pioneers defeated Baker for the first time in school history on Baker’s home field. The Pioneers scored two first-half goals, then added a third after halftime to defeat the Bulldogs 3-1 at the Baker Sports Complex. “It was the first time Mac-Hi has ever beat us here,” said Baker coach DeeDee Clarke. Andrea Roeder and Micaela Epifanio each scored for Mac-Hi in the first seven minutes of the match to put Baker in a quick 2-0 hole. Baker couldn’t muster much offense in the first half and trailed 2-0 at halftime. Robbie Langrell scored for the Bulldogs early in the second half to cut the deficit to 2-1. Langrell broke down the right side and fired a crossing shot that caught the upper left corner of the net. “We had Mackenzie Warner back for this match,” Clarke said. “We were able to put her back on defense and push Robbie up front. “We just need to get in better shape and we need more motion up front. We need to do more overlapping,” Clarke said. Epifanio ended any hopes the Bulldogs had of tying the game when she scored her second goal on a sliding effort moments after Langrell’s goal. “The girls played a good game, but we’re young,” Clarke said. “The girls just need to play together more.” Mac-Hi also won the JV match 5-0. Baker travels to Weiser, Idaho, Tuesday. |
