Baker displayed more offense in its first girls soccer game of this season than the Bulldogs showed most all of last season.

Baker scored a goal in each half to hand Weiser a 2-0 non-league loss Tuesday at the Baker Sports Complex.

“The girls were playing hard, and talking to each other,” said Baker coach Dee Dee Clarke.

“This was a long time in coming. I’m really proud of the girls. They all packed in and covered for each other. They attacked the ball and played aggressive. It was just so positive,” Clarke said.

The Bulldogs had to know things were going to go their way early in the first half. A Bulldog was called for tackling a Weiser player in the penalty box resulting in a Wolverine penalty kick.

But, Baker keeper Rachel Streifel stuffed the attempt with no trouble keeping the game knotted at zero.

Then, in the final minute of the first half, Allie Brown made a run on the Weiser keeper, faked right and chipped a goal in the net to the keeper’s left.

Both teamsd hand several shots on goal in the first half, but that was th eonly score leaving Baker on top 1-0 at halftime.

Farrell Lindley increased Baker’s lead to 2-0 midway through the second half when she broke ahead of a pack of players and beat the Weiser keeper from straight in front of the net.

Baker lost the junior varsity match 4-0.

The Baker boys dropped a 3-2 decision Tuesday at Weiser. John Macias and Riley Carter scored Baker’s goals.

Baker opens Greater Oregon League play Saturday at La Grande.
