Baker girls win GOL title

Baker successfully defended its Greater Oregon League girls cross country championship for the second straight year Saturday at Ontario.

And, the Baker boys also qualified for a trip to the Class 4A state meet by placing second at district for the second conecutive year.

“The kids were on a mission to win the title and ran hard,” said Baker coach Tish Bloomer.

“They were all ready to run fast. We had a ton of huge PRs (personal bests). I’m really proud of everybody.”

Baker also earned a pair of individual championships when Melissa Clarke and Trevor Freese ran away from the boys and girls fields. Clarke finished in a time of 20:27, and Freese in a time of 16:29.

“Both Trevor and Melissa were just beautiful to watch,” Bloomer said.

The district results means both Baker teams advance to the Class 4A state meet Saturday at Lane Community College in Eugene.

The girls will run at 11:25 a.m. followed by the boys at noon.

Gates open at 8 a.m. General admission spectator tickets are $8 adults and $5 students.
