Baker golfers split at Mac-Hi

Baker golf teams split what turned out to be a dual with Mac-Hi Friday in Milton-Freewater.

The match was scheduled to be a tournament, but Baker and Mac-Hi were the only teams to show up.

“La Grande decided not to go over, and some of the teams that usually show up in the Mac-Hi area didn’t come either,” said Baker coach Scott Warner.

“It was pretty nice over in Milton-Freewater, but it was pretty nasty going over the mountain.”

Baker won the girls match 409-466. Kindra Smith led the Bulldogs with a score of 90 to take medalist honors.

Hallie Borgen finished with 96, Tayler Wood 106, Maggie Harlow 108 and Morgan Ward 111.

“The girls did really good for their first 18-hole tournament,” Warner said.

Baker lost the boys match 287-332.

“Mac-Hi is a good team, probably the top-seed in the league,” Warner said. “Our guys showed improvement. Were coming along.”

Zach Thatcher led Baker with a 79. Pat Vaughan shot 81, Dillon Delong 84, Parker Warner 88 and Adam Lehman 93. Medalist was Mac-Hi’s Jimmy Rhater with a 68.

The Baker girls play at La Grande Tuesday and Pendleton Friday. The boys are idle this week.
