Baker softball drops pair to Pendleton

Pendleton handed the Baker Diamond Dawgs a softball doubleheader sweep Wednesday at the Baker Sports Complex. Pendleton won the two games 4-0 and 6-5.

In the five-inning opener Pendleton limited Baker to one hit, a leadoff single by Sierra Howerton in the first inning.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Pendleton scored three times on two hits, three walks and a Baker error.

Tori Brown took the loss in the circle.

Baker started strong in Game 2, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Howerton walked but was forced out on a fielder’s choice. DJ McCauley followed with a single, and Brown singled home the first run. Jessi Stephens added a single before McCauley scored on an error.

One out later Taylor McAdams walked to load the bases before Abi Smith doubled home a pair of runs.

Pendleton rallied to tie the game at 4-4 in the fourth.

Baker then took advantage of three Pendleton errors to regain a 5-4 edge in the bottom of the inning.

Pendleton again rallied to tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the fifth, then scored the winning run on a Baker error in the sixth.
