Baker combined seven extra-base hits with 13 walks or hit-by-pitches to bury Weiser 18-1 in a nonleague softball game Thursday at Weiser.

“The top half of our order swung the bats for power,” said Baker coach Al McCauley.

The top four hitters in the Baker lineup finished the game 7-for-13 with two doubles, three triples, two home runs and 10 RBIs.

Leadoff hitter Sierra Howerton had a triuple and a three-run homer. Tasha Nelson added a triple and an RBI. DJ McCauley had a triple, two-run homer and four RBIs. Jessi Stephens was 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Baker took the lead for good with three runs in the top of the first inning.

Howerton got things started with a walk. Nelson then tripled her in. McCauley then finished the scoring with her homer.

Two walks and hit batter loaded the bases in the second. Stephens later doubled in two runners to help increase Baker’s lead to 6-1.

Howerton slugged her home run with two runners on in the third inning to increase the margin to 9-1.

Baker added two runs in the fourth, then exploded for seven more in the fifth.

In the fifth, Howerton tripled and Nelson walked. Both scored on McCauley’s triple. Stephens reached on an error, Danielle Freese was hit by a pitch and Darion Grove walked. Abi Smith then laced a two-run single to complete the scoring.

Howerton got the start in the pitching circle, throwing the first two innings. She faced nine batters, allowing one run, walked one and struck out one.

McCauley came on in the third inning. She faced 11 batters, giving up two hits and striking out three.

Baker (2-0) is now idle until March 31 when the Bulldogs host Gladstone in a doubleheader at the Baker Sports Complex.
