Baker softball is young

Young and untested.

That’s how Baker softball coach Al McCauley described this year’s version of his ball club.

The Bulldogs return just one player from last year’s team — junior outfielder Kayla Davis, a second-team all-Greater Oregon League selection a year ago.

The young additions to this year’s club found out quickly what a varsity scehdule is like.

The Bulldogs opened their season during Spring Break by playing seven games in five days.

“Playing seven games in five days, some people will start stepping up and earning a spot on the roster,” McCauley said.

The Baker coach said the Bulldogs will be built around offense.

“I think we have some girls that swing the bats pretty well,” he said.

Because they are untested, the Bulldogs list at least three players at every position, vying for playing time.

Junior Sierra Koehler, sophomore Dani McCauley and freshman Morgan Plumbtree will share time in the pitching circle.

Junior Lakalyn Thomas will start at catcher backed up by freshmen Jordan Rudolph and Nicole Parsons.

Katelynne Raley, Cailen Sherman and Powder Valley junior Sally Mary Blair will see time at first base.

Blair, Hope Collard, Ashley Knoll and Gracie Hardy will share time at third base.

McCauley, Koehler, Parsons, Hannah Lien and Gracie McCarrell will see action at the middle infield slots.

Davis will anchor the outfield in center.

On either side of her will come from Blair, Molly McCrary and Julianne Delatorre.
