Baker softball routs Grant Union

JOHN DAY — Baker breezed to 17-2 win over Grant Union in a non-league softball game Wednesday.

The game was actually quite competitive for the first two innings.

After Baker took a 2-0 lead on Laura Wilson’s single in the top of the second, the Prospectors scored once in the bottom of the inning.

Baker extended its lead to 3-1 after three innings, then put the game away with four runs in the fourth and three in the fifth.

The Bulldogs finished the game strong, with a seven-run seventh.

A trio of Baker pitchers, meanwhile, held the Prospectors to six hits.

Mackenzie Srack started in the circle and went four innings.

She was relieved by Tori Brown in the fourth, who gave way to D.J. McCauley in the sixth.

Jesse Stephens had three hits and two RBI, including a third-inning home run.

Brown drove in four runs on two hits, including a two-run double in the seventh.

Baker will play host to Ontario in a doubleheader Saturday at the Sports Complex.

First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
