Baker had to settle for a split with Mac-Hi in a Greater Oregon League softball doubleheader at Milton-Frewater Friday.

Mac-Hi used three Baker errors to pull out a 3-1 win in Game 1. Baker bounced back to with the second game 5-1.

The split leaves Baker 3-1 in GOL play and 6-4 overall.

“We’re happy to get a split over there,” said Baker coach Al McCauley.

Leading 1-0 in the opener, Mac-Hi used the three Bulldogs miscues to add two runs in the fourth inning and take a 3-0 lead.

Baker got one run back in the fourth on a solo home run from Sierra Howerton.

The Bulldogs had 10 hits in the game, but couldn’t bunch them together to score runs.

Darryn McCauley was the losing pitcher despite throwing a three-hitter.

Baker added 10 more hits in Game 2.

The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning.

Howerton led off with a single and Darion Grove reached base on an error. McCauley then grounded into a fielder’s choice before Jessi Stephens singled.

Stephanie Shepherd was hit by a pitch to drive home one run. Then, after Tasha Nelson hit into another fielder’s choice, Danielle Freese singled home the second run.

Baker went up 3-1 in the fourth after Howerton singled and came home on a McCauley triple.

The Bulldogs added two runs in the seventh. McCauley walked and Stephens and Shepherd sinled to load the bases. The two runs scored on a double by Nelson.

Howerton got the win in the circle, and McCauley a save.

Baker hosts Weiser in a single nonleague game Tuesday at the Baker Sports Complex. The Bulldogs then travel to La Grande for a GOL twinbill Friday.
