Baker softball sweeps Grant Union at Complex

Baker combined stingy pitching and solid hitting to sweep a non-league softball doubleheader from Grant Union Tuesday.

Tori Brown threw a one-hitter in an 8-1 victory in Game 1. Mackenzie Srack and Darryn McCauley combined on a one-hitter in the 15-0 second game.

“Giving up just two hits a doubleheader. I’ll take that,” said Baker coach Al McCauley.

“Tori had a no-hitter going until the next to the last batter. The girls made some great defensive plays behind her to keep it that way.”

Baker had 19 hits in the twinbill, 11 for extra bases.

“The girls are swinging the bats well right now,” McCauley said. “We’ve been getting some good production throughout the lineup. I’ve been particularly happy with the bottom of the lineup.

“And we played real solid defense,” the Baker coach added.

Baker scored first in Game 1, when Darryn McCauley doubled and scored on another double by Brown.

Srack added an RBI double in a two-run second inning.

Baker added two runs in the fourth without benefit of a hit. A hit batter, a fielder’s choice and a pop out plated the runs.

Baker completed its first-game scoring with three runs in the fifth. Jessi Stephens led the way with a two-run homer. Srack added an RBI single.

Brown struck out 11 and walked one in the win.

Baker used two big innings to make short work of the Prospectors in Game 2.

Srack’s two-run triple, and a two-run double by Brown sparked a 6-run second inning.

Brown’s two-run home run, a two-run double by McCauley and RBIs by Srack, Sierra Howerton and Becca Joseph highlighted a 7-run fourth.

Joseph added an RBI triple, and Aubree Shepherd an RBI double in the third.

Srack threw the first four innings for the win. McCauley struck out the side in the fifth.

Baker (5-1) travels to Fruitland, Idaho, Friday.
