Baker softball sweeps Prospectors

Baker used the long ball to hand Grant Union an 8-3, 16-2 doubleheader loss in non-league softball action Tuesday at the Baker Sports Complex.

Tara Talbott, Savannah Daly and Rebecca Joseph each slugged a home run in the sweep.

After spotting Grant Union a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Game 1, Talbott ripped her eighth homer of the season to right field to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.

Then, after Grant Union regained a 3-2 advantage, RBI singles by Jessie Stephens and Joseph helped give Baker the lead for good, 5-3 in the third inning.

Baker used Grant Union errors and a fielder’s choice to add single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Tori Brown pitched the first four innings to earn the win. Mackenzie Srack threw the final three innings.

Daly slapped a grand slam homer to left to highlight a 7-run Baker first in the second game. Brown added a two-run double, and Stephens an RBI hit.

Darryn McCauley ripped an RBI double to spark a 4-run second. Srack added an RBI single, and Stephens an RBI ground out.

Joseph’s two-run homer, her second of the season, was the key blow in a 5-run third. McCauley added an RBI double, and Stephens an RBI single.

McCauley pitched the complete-game victory.

Baker returns to Greater Oregon League play Saturday at league-leading La Grande.
