Baker softball sweeps Weiser

Baker made short work of its non-league softball doubleheader with Weiser, Idaho, Tuesday at the Baker Sports Complex.

The Bulldogs slugged 17 hits, including a pair of home runs, to defeat the Wolverines 12-2 and 13-1. Both games ended in five innings by the 10-run mercey rule.

In the opener, Tara Talbott’s RBI groundout gave Baker a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

The Bulldogs then exploded for five runs in the third inning. Darryn McCauley laced an RBI double to score one run. Tori Brown and Mackenzie Srack each added run-scoring singles. Two other runs scored on an error and a passed ball.

Baker added three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.

In the fourth, Rebecca Joseph hit her first home run of the season, a two-run shot over the left field fence. McCauley added an RBI single.

In the fifth, Andrea Wilson laced a two-run double to center. She later scored the final run on a passed ball ending the game.

Brown evened her season record at 3-3, pitching the complete-game win. Brown gave up six hits and struck out four.

In the second game, Baker erupted for seven runs in the first inning and six more in the second.

In the first, Savannah Daly laced a two-run single. McCauley added a run-scoring double, and Jessie Stephens an RBI single. Two more runs scored on an error and a wild pitch.

In the second, McCauley hit her second home run in four games, a two-run shot to center field. Daly added a sacrifice fly. Two wild pitches and another error plated the other three runs.

McCauley threw the first three innings, allowing three hits and striking out three. Srack threw the final two innings, allowing two hits and one run.

Baker returns to Greater Oregon League action Friday when the Bulldogs host Mac-Hi in a doubleheader.
