Baker didn’t play its best volleyball against Mac-Hi Thursday, but the Bulldogs still played well enough to win. Baker ran its Greater Oregon League record to 3-0 with a 25-9, 25-11, 25-16 victory over the Pioneers in the Baker gym. “It wasn’t our best outing, and the girls know that,” said Baker coach Michele McCauley. “Our goal with this being pep week was to not take anything for granted and to get out of here tonight in three games.” Darryn McCauley’s serving and the net play of Kylie Kitzmiller got Baker off to a 5-0 lead in the first game. Kitzmiller then went to the service line and boosted Baker’s lead to 11-1. The Bulldogs then played well enough to coast the rest of the way in Game 1. Kelsey Cole served Baker on top 6-1 to start Game 2. Kitzmiller, Tori Brown and Whitney Phillips combined to dominate the net as the Bulldogs then forged a 15-2 cushion. Game 3 started closer, but Tiffany Burk had two scoring hits, and Kitzmiller one, to turn a 7-4 Baker lead into an 11-4 cushion. Mac-Hi statyed close all the way to 14-9 before Kitzmiller served Baker up 17-9. Mac-Hi got no closer the rest of the way. Kitzmiller finished 23-of-23 serving with three ace serves. She added 10 kills. Cole was 14-for-14 serving with five aces. Emily Smith was 7-for-7 serving with six digs. Brown had nine kills and Phillips four kills on 4-of-6 hitting. Baker also won the junior varsity match 25-13, 25-14. Baker’s next action is Tuesday at home against Ontario. |
