Baker opened its home volleyball season Tuesday with a come-from-behind, three-set non-league win over Weiser 25-17, 25-17, 25-15.

“I thought we served well,” said Baker coach Michele McCauley.

“Sometimes we played strong volleyball, but other times we seem to make it easy for our opponents.

“We talked about not giving up so many scoring runs for our opponents,” McCauley said.

In Game 1, Baker led 5-1 before Weiser battled back to take a 6-5 advantage.

The teams then battled back and forth through five ties before Monica Voboril served the Bulldogs on top at 18-15.

Michelle Birkmaier and Michelle Freese each added service points to finish off the game. Abi Smith and Erin Bachman added scoring hits.

In Game 2, Baker fell behind 5-0, and still trailed 7-4 before Voboril served three points to knot the game at 7-7.

Weiser then regained a slim lead until Liz Wulk served three points to Baker a 15-13 edge. Baker never trailed after that.

Birkmaier helped close the game out with a pair of scoring hits.

The final game was considerably different.

Baker did fall behind 1-0, but forged ahead 5-3 before Birkmaier served 10 straight points for a 15-3 Baker led.

Voboril, Freese and Taylor McAdams added scoring hits as the Bulldogs pulled away for the match win.

Bachman ws 6-for-6 hitting with five kills. McAdams had four kills. Smith was 7-for-7 hitting with two kills. Voboril had 10 ills and was 16-for-16 serving with five aces.

Freese was 13-of-14 hitting with five kills. Birkmaier was 16-of-16 serving with three aces and seven kills. Wulk was 10-of-11 serving with three aces.

Ashley McConniel was 12-for-12 serving and had 14 assists. Sami Searles added 10 digs.

Baker lost the junior varsity match 25-9, 25-23, and won the frosh/soph match 25-8, 25-17.

Baker’s varsity travels to Burns for a tournament Saturday. The JV and frosh/soph teams will play at a tournament at Payette.
