Baker splits tennis matches

Baker played tennis matches with Fruitland, Idaho, and Pendleton Monday and Tuesday.

The Bulldogs swept Fruitland Monday, then split with Pendleton Tuesday at the Ash Grove Courts.

Against Pendleton, Baker won the girls match 3-2. Courtney Petry was Baker’s lone singles winner, winning in three sets.

Baker’s doubles teams of Lily Bass and Ellen Jampolsky and Kim Countryman and Julie Tipton swept their matches in straight sets.

Baker lost the boys match to the Bucks 5-0.

Gus Hansen played No. 1 singles for the first time, losing in three sets.

Robert Schmeits and Dan Sizer, who have played singles all season, decided to try their hand at doubles, and lost in three sets.

At Fruitland, Baker mixed things up letting several doubles players play singles, and singles players try their luck in doubles.

Jampolsky and Kate Sizer won girls singles matches. Petry and Robbie Langrell, and Countryman and Tipton swept doubles matches.

Hansen and Jordan Curtis won boys singles against Fruitland. Dan Sizer and Schmeits won the No. 1 doubles.

Baker also swept a pair of mixed doubles matches. Trenton Howard teamed with Helen Galiszewski in the No. 1 match. Anna Clarke teamed with Dakota Peterson in the No. 2 match.

Baker returns to district action Friday when the Bulldogs host Ontario at the Ash Grove courts.
