Baker swim preview

Numbers are down on the Baker High School swim team this season. The Bulldogs field just 18 swimmers, down from 21 a year ago.

Of the 18, 10 return from last season, including four who advanced to the state meet.

Jasmine Fillebrown, Courtney Raley and Sierra Howerton advanced to state as part of the Bulldogs 400 freestyle relay.

Raley, Howerton and Taylor Ellis went to state as part of the 200 freestyle relay.

Raley also advanced to state in the 50 freestyle.

The other returning swimmers are Tonita Britt, Katie Vela, Jenna Ermovick, Haley Cook, Jake Baxter and Franklin Bowers.

Newcomers are Katie McCarrell, Emily Miller, Anna Payton, Tim Smithson, Tommy Lein, Sergio Parada, Isaac Mansuetti and Dillon Borello.

“All of our new kids are starting almost from scratch,” said fourth-year Baker coach Bruce Bowers.

“It will be fun to see where they are after they get a meet or two under their belts.

Bowers’ assistant coach is Paula Moe, the Baker club team coach.
