Baker swimmers close out home season

Baker High School swim coach Bruce Bowers got into the “swim” of things Saturday at the Baker Invitational meet at Sam-O Swim Center.

Since it was Baker’s final home meet of the season, the Bulldogs celebrated by dumping the team water container on to Bowers at the end of the meet.

“I got a little wet,” Bowers smiled, showing off his wet shirt.

Bowers only smiled when reminded that some coaches end up in the pool in similar situations.

“Shhh,” he said so as not to catch the attention of Baker swimmers cleaning up after the meet.

The meet also was the final home appearance for seniors Courtney Baxter, Trevor Davis, Jake Eastland, Marissa Ermovick, Aryel Fahrney, Annie Martin, Cameron McAlister, Jake Payton, Kim Pointer, Raven Shipsey and Dru Simonski-Davis.

The Baker girls finished second to La Grande in the team standings. The Baker boys were third behind Pendleton and La Grande.

The Baker girls earned two individual firsts — Martin in the 200 IM (2:35.36), and Charlotte Bowers in the 100 freestyle (1:01.11).

Martin, Pointer, Courtney Raley and Fahrney also teamed up to win the girls 200 freestyle relay (1:56.65).

Baker travels to Hood River Saturday for the annual The Dalles Invitational.
