Baker swimmers under way

A trio of swimmers who qualified for the state competition a year ago anchor the Baker swim team.

Senior Annie Martin, who has advanced to state in the 500 freestyle two straight years, joins Charlotte Bowers (to state in the 100 and 200 freestyle) and Kim Pointer (a member of the Baker relay) as returning swimmers.

Other returning girls are Raven Shipsey, Mrissa Ermovick, Aryel Fahrney, Kathryn Gilsdorf, Ellen Jampolsky, Courtney Petry, Emily Miller and Kristina Huskey.

Returning boys are Cameron McAlister, Jake Payton, Dru Simonski-Davis, Trevor Freese, Jake Skillings and Colton Dillman.

Baker coach Bruce Bowers has 35 swimmers out so far, including 21 girls and 14 boys.

Bowers, in his second year as the Bulldogs’ coach, is hoping for improvement throughout the season.

“I spent the off-season studying, so I feel a little more prepared,” he said. “We’ll see at the end of the year.”
