Baker tennis sends six to state

A half-dozen Baker tennis players will make the trip to Eugene May 17-19 to participate in the Class 4A state tournament.

Five boys and one girl qualified for state Thursday at the Greater Oregon League district tournament at the Ash Grove Complex at Baker High School.

Baker boys advancing to state are singles Ivan Hansen, and the doubles teams of Jordan Curtis and Lukas Huggins and Brandon Zunino and Nathan Eiselein.

Kate Sizer will represent the Baker girls at state.

Thursday, Hansen, seeded No. 3, won his opening match in straight sets, and did likewise in the quarterfinals.

Both Baker doubles teams swept their quarterfinal matches in straight sets after drawing first-round byes. Curtis and Huggins are seeded No. 1, and Zunino and Eiselein No. 3.

Sizer, seeded No. 2, won both her first-round and quarterfinal matches in two sets.

Two other Bulldogs — Jesse Burk and Emily Miller — will play for the consolation titles in the boys and girls singles today.

Championship action began at 10 a.m. today with the semifinal round. Consolation finals will follow the semis, and then the championship finals will be played.
