Baker tennis sweeps Nyssa

NYSSA — The third time was the charm for the Baker tennis teams Friday.
Baker had had its first two matches rained out. But, Friday, the Bulldogs swept boys and girls matches from Nyssa.

The Baker boys won 5-0, and the girls 4-1.

“Nyssa annually isn’t that strong so we didn’t bring some of our No. 1 and No. 2 players,” said Baker boys coach George Keister.

“But, it was good for some of these young guys to get their first matches on the court. It was just good to get a match in.”

J.J. Vela, Brandon Zunino and Jace Rowland each won their boys singles matches in straight sets.

Ivan Hansen and Chance Parry and Issac Mansuetti and Justin Broughton also won the doubles matches in straight sets.

In the girls matches, Helen Galiszewski and Hazel Hansen won singles matches for the Bulldogs.

Anna Clarke and Kate Sizer, and Devon Galiszewski and Jessica McKim swept the doubles matches.

“We had great weather, and the kids played great,” said Jodie Averett, Baker girls coach.

Baker travels to Weiser Tuesday then hosts La Grande and Crook County Saturday at the Ash Grove Complex.
