Baker to state Babe Ruth tourney

Baker will open play at the North Oregon State Babe Ruth 13-15-year-old baseball tournament Tuesday at Ontario. Baker qualified for the state tournament after placing second at the District 3 tournament last weekend at La Grande. The members of the Baker City National team are Anthony Shankle, Austin Fisher, Dillon Blankenship, Braden Phillips, Austin Cline, Danny O’Neal, Darren Dolby, Dustin Hull, Jesse Corr, Kody Younger, Kipp Miller, and Alex Turner. Manager is Nathan Hull and coaches are Kay Burritt and Corey Younger. Baker qualified for the state tournament despite losing 17-3 to SRV Nationals in the District 3 championship game. Also at district, Baker defeated SRV Americans 12-8, lost to SRV Nationals 10-0, topped Wallowa Valley 23-2, and defeated Harney County 17-11 and 17-6. At the state tournament, Baker will play the Tualatin Hills Beavers at 3 p.m. PDT Tuesday at Elks Memorial Field on the Treasure Valley Community College campus. Wednesday, Baker will play the Tualatin Hills Royals at 6 p.m. PDT. Baker’s final pool play contest will be Thursday against Clackamas at 3 p.m. PDT. The tournament semifinals are scheduled Friday July 24, and the title game Saturday, July 25. |
