Baker track has fun at Hermiston

Baker track and field athletes worked on having fun and competing Saturday at the 24th annual Kiwanis Invitational at Hermiston High School.

“We had a great day,” said Baker coach Suzy Cole. “Except for windy conditions it was a perfect afternoon.

“We told the kids going in we weren’t going to worry about our marks, we were just going to go out and compete.”

Walker Kaseberg earned Baker’s only first-place award, winning the boys high jump with a personal best-equalling leap of 6 feet, 4 inches.

“That was a really good jump for the windy conditions,” Cole said.

Several other Bulldogs earned lifetime or season personal bests.

Melissa Clarke had an 8-second PR in the 3,000; Kelsie Cole a lifetime mark in the 800; Stacy Duman in both hurdles; Kylie Kitzmiller in the high hurdles and triple jump; Dakota Olson in the 200; Felicia Schneider a 23-second PR in the 1,500; Ashley Trees an 8-second PR in th e800; and Tori Wirth an 11-foot best in the discus.

On the boys side, Luke Austin ran his best marks in the 100 and 200; Chris Brown had a 5-foot-4-inch best in the discus; Jake Eastland a lifetime best in the pole vault; Tanner O’Grady a 24-second best in the 3,000; B.J. Quintana in the 200; Erik Robertson in the 1,500 and 3,000; Jake Sandefur a 1-foot-7.25-inch best in the triple jump; and Mitch Sandefur in the intermediate hurdles.
