Baker volleyball team tops La Grande

Baker continued its march through the Greater Oregon League volleyball wars Thursday with a 25-23, 26-24, 25-16 victory at La Grande.

The win improves Baker’s GOL record to 5-0.

“The girls played a great match as a team,” said Baker coach Michele McCauley.

McCauley said the Bulldogs trailed 23-18 in the second game before rallying for the win.

“The girls showed a lot of heart being able to come back like they did,” the Baker coach said.

Kylie Kitzmiller led the Bulldogs with 17-of-19 hitting, 12-for-12 serving and six kills.

Whitney Phillips added four solo blocks, Tiffany Burk four kills, and Emily Smith 6-of-7 receiving.

Kelsey Cole was 20-for-21 serving with nine assists. Becca Joseph was also 20-for-21 serving and added 15 digs.

Baker split the non-varsity matches against La Grande.

Baker lost the junior varsity match 25-15, 7-25, 4-15.

Taylor Nelson and Kathryn Daugherty each were 7-for-7 serving. Daugherty also was 11-of-12 digging.

Ashley Trees was 8-for-8 serving and 2-for-2 hitting. Stacy Duman was 11-of-12 hitting.

Baker won the frosh/soph match 25-14, 25-9.

Darion Grove was 10-of-11 serving with six aces, and two kills. Morgan Morris and Ashley McConniel each added two kills, nd Haylee Johnson a “great save” according to Coach Jenny Mowe-Joseph.

Baker travels to Mac-Hi Tuesday before hosting La Grande next Thursday.
