Baker wins La Grande net title

LA GRANDE — Baker defeated La Grande to claim the championship at the La Grande Invitational volleyball tournament Saturday. “We took first place. We were slow starters in the morning but picked up momentum in the afternoon,” said Baker coach Michele McCauley. “The girls blocked well today, Tori (Brown) and Whitney (Phillips) had some key blocks. I felt like Tiffany (Burke) had a strong tournament. There was a lot of hustle teamwise. We really played together as a team in the afternoon.” In pool play, Baker defeated Payette 25-18, lost 25-24 to Weiser, lost 22-21 to the Fruitland JV, defeated Vale 25-10, topped La Grande 25-14, defeated Ontario 25-20 and stopped Grant Union 25-20. In bracket play, Baker beat Ontario 25-19, 25-15, and beat Weiser 25-19, 25-12 to advance to the title match. Baker ten beat LaGrande 25-13, 25-22 to win the title. Baker returns to Greater Oregon League action tuesday at Ontario. |
