Baker wrestlers win home finale

Baker’s evening got started a little late, but when all was said and done the Bulldogs came away with a 40-34 victory over Mac-Hi in a Greater Oregon League wrestling dual at BHS.

Weigh-ins were scheduled to start at 4 p.m. and wrestling at 5 p.m. But, Mac-Hi didn’t arrive until just after 4:30 p.m. so the start of the match was pushed back to 5:30 p.m.

Baker won four matches by forfeit, and Mac-Hi three.

In matches actually wrestled the teams tied 16-16.

James AhHee got Baker started with a 3-1 decision at 106 pounds.

AhHee earned a two-point takedown in the first period, then traded one-point escapes with his opponent in the final two periods.

Cody Bingham (120) earned a 14-5 major decision.

Bingham built a 6-3 lead after one period, then increased it to 8-4 after two periods.

Bingham then used a pair of three-point nearfalls to put the match away in the final two minutes.

Marco Vela (132) constructed a 10-0 lead after two periods, then pinned his opponent with 1:04 left in the match.

Peter Baker (170) topped his opponent 3-1, using an escape and takedown in the second period for his winning margin.

Baker coach Brandon Young had another function to attend immediately following the match and was unavailable for comments.

Baker completes its regular season Saturday at the Pine-Eagle Invitational.
