The Bulldogs’ second shutout win could prove to be a costly victory. Baker standout Julia Vaughan injured her knee during the action and her status for the rest of the season is uncertain.
“We had it X-rayed (Thursday) and they didn’t show anything,” said Baker coach DeeDee Clarke.
“Julia was to have an MRI (Friday). We don’t know if her season is over, or she will be back in a couple of games. We’re keeping are fingers crossed that she’ll be back soon,” Clarke said.
Clarke said Vaughan injured her knee going for a ball against a Weiser player.
“She was just going for the ball and twisted her knee. It happened right in front of us. It was gross,” Clarke said.
Results of the MRI were not available for this story.
Vaughan’s teammates lit up the scoreboard for the second straight game. After scoring seven goals in their opener, the Bulldogs added a half dozen goals Thursday.
Dallas Defrees led the barrage with a pair of goals.
“Her kicks are getting stronger every game,” Clarke said.
Vaughan, Mackenzie Warner, Maggie Harlow and Robbie Langrell each added single goals.
Keeper Kristen Hoopes only had to handle three balls from the Wolverines. Clarke noted that that was in part due to the strong defensive effort in front of the Baker net.
“Our team is playing as a solid unit,” Clarke said. “Our defense is playing wonderful. You just don’t get the ball past them.”
Baker also won Thursday’s junior varsity game 1-0. Shasta Overton scored Baker’s goal.
The Bulldogs (2-0) travel to Weiser for a return engagement Tuesday.
