Blankenship named top 4A player

OREGON CITY — Baker’s Derek Blankenship and Marist’s Mitchel Wilson were named the Class 4A “Star of Stars” recipients Saturday after the final game of the Class 4A Boys Basketball All-Star Series.

The North completed a sweep of the two games by winning Saturday’s game 88-80 at Clackamas Community College. Blankenship led the North with 16 points and six rebounds.

The North also won Friday’s game at Northwest Christian University in Eugene 90-63. Blankenship again led the North with 15 points and five rebounds.

Saturday, the North trailed by as many as 12 points midway through the first half. La Grande’s Ryan Tooke hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to pull  the North to within 41-39 at halftime.

The North took the lead for good early in the second half.

Friday, the North rolled to a 44-27 halftime lead, and increased its lead to as many as 32 points in the second half.

Matt Bryant added 20 points and 14 rebounds for the North.

Wilson led the South Saturday with 15 points, and Friday with 11 points.
