Baker’s Greater Oregon League boys basketball game looked more like a Bulldog track meet Friday as Baker ran to an 81-29 win at BHS.

Dillon Blankenship and Dane Bachman combined to score the first 14 points of the game as Baker ran off a 17-0 start in the first quarter.

Trent Taylor added a three-pointer before Mac-Hi finally scored on a rebound basket with 4:15 left in the quarter.

Blankenship finished the first period with 16 points, and Bachman seven as the Bulldogs forged a 28-5 lead.

“We set a good tempo and shared the basketball well,” said Baker coach Joel Richardson. “It was pretty basketball.”

Richardson said he would be hard pressed to single out any one Baker player.

“It was just great team basketball,” he said.

Bachman and Blankenship combined for 11 more second-quarter points. Thomas Hamilton added six points, and Braden Phillips five.

Baker led 53-11 at halftime.

“I loved the way we were balancing the attack; people looking for people,,” Richardson said.

“Our defense was really good and our rebounding was outstanding.”

Baker outrebounded the Pioneers 45-21. Phillips led the way with 16, eight on the offensive boards. Bachman had nine rebounds, and Hamilton seven.

Baker dished out 15 assists and had 16 turnovers.

“With this kind of running game you’re going to have a few more turnovers. I’ll take 16 tonight,” Richardson said.

Baker shot 50 percent from the field (27-of-54) and from the three-point line (7-of-14).

Blankenship led Baker with 22 points. Bachman added 20, Hamilton 10 and Phillips 10.
